Prime Video has won my heart!

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” takes me back to the ’50s, and I wasn’t even a twinkle in my father’s eye at that point. However, when I grew up in the ’60s, remnants of that decade were recent dinosaurs.

Mom drove a ‘50s-era Buick. We also had a Studebaker with fins in the back. These cars looked, I swear, like people. The headlights were large, unblinking eyes. The fins on back their long hair. Those cars were huge, and riding in the formidable boats an experience I will never forget. They were old and rusty when Mom drove them in the late ’60s, and the Buick was aqua with white trim. The Studebaker was brown with white trim, the rustier of the two.

When Mom got mad, or even vaguely annoyed with me and my siblings, she’d say, “Go outside and play! you don’t need to be cooped up in the house!”

When we got tired, we’d sprawl across Mom’s car. Even better if it had recently been driven and the hood was warm. I remember laying across the massive gunnels on the front of the car, listening to the mechanics in the car ticking sporadically.
